Native Instruments has released their Stem Creator software for Windows and MAC OS. This is the official full version of the program that can be used to create Stem files and which is available for free download.
The concept of “Stems” was first introduced in spring of 2015, as being a new open multi-track format that allows music producers to create stems with 4 tracks mixed, for instance: a track for bass, one for drums, one for harmony and one for leads. Any DJ then can use a Stem file to create new mixes and tracks, isolating parts of each Stem.
We believe that this new format will open new opportunities for music producers and DJs but also for those who create sound libraries. In the near future we should expect new samples packs to appear on the Internet that will include Stems, besides the already classic Wav format, Kontakt, etc.
The Stem Creator allow you to import four elements of a track, each previously designed as separate audio files in a music software or wave editor and then to export all 4 tracks into a single stem file in .mp4 format. To note that Stem Creator can be used to add compression and limiting to each track, before export the final stem.
Stem Creator comes with all the necessary resources, documentation and codes needed to integrate Stems in any music software. Also, the Stems developer toolkit coming soon. This means that in the near future many of the currently used software for music production (Ableton Live, Fl Studio, Logic Pro, Reason, Reaper etc.) will include the option to can export mixes in Stem format.
