Hi everyone. We’ve got a new “Gravity Pack” by Heavyocity to look at. It’s “Gravity Pack 05” and it’s not just any pack. It is Scoring Guitars 2! Yes, that’s right. They hear our prayers and made a second Scoring Guitars pack after the first one was easily one of the most sought-after and highly regarded libraries of 2017.
There are only very few releases that get me as excited as when a new Heavyocity product comes out, and that’s for one simple reason, they just never disappoint. And they also didn’t with this one. I am not saying this cause they asked me to, by the way. I don’t get paid by Heavyocity or anything like that, I just believe in their stuff, cause I use it all the time.
Overview
Scoring Guitars 2 keeps a lot of the good stuff we all loved about Scoring Guitars 1, but this time Heavyocity went for a slightly edgy-er sound. Scoring Guitars 2 was created with Neil Goldberg from start to finish, giving us a wonderful consistency throughout the library, both in sound and character.
Neil has a wonderful ability to gently tickle his guitar in the right way to get it to sing in a beautiful voice, rich with harmonics and overtones.
The samples and Phrases in Scoring Guitars 2 come in the Key of D and G and include a huge variety. Overall the library downloads as 5.3 Gigabyte and includes 380+ NKI’s ranging from Complex Pads, Ambient Beds and Drones, and Melodic Pulses and Phrases to Rhythmic Pedals, and three “Extra Playable”.
Many of these Presets include another 4 snapshots each, and all of them offer a huge amount of flexibility through the Gravity engine, and the included motion paged, as well as the trigger effects. Which reminds me, there is also a mere 300+ motion presets included. I have often the first Scoring Guitars not fully utilized because someone wasn’t even aware of the motion capabilities of the Gravity engine.
So definitely take the time to check the manual or the tutorials on Heavyocity’s Website. It’s is well worth the time. By the way, like with all the “Gravity Packs”, you don’t need to own Gravity to use it. They come as their own stand-alone library for Kontakt 5.7.1+, and also the free Kontakt Player.
Scoring Guitars 2’s sound is absolutely incredible, and Heavyocity, who always listens to their customers, included all patches with their own effects chain as well as patches with the dry samples, so you can build your own effects chain.
The Gravity engine of course also still includes Twist and Punish, and together with the trigger effects and motion pages, as well as the ADSR controls, the onboard Reverb, Delay, Chorus, and Distortion, there is really a vast range of possibilities to mangle, twist and distort the original sound.
The only thing I am missing in some places is that the waveform is not visible in every type of patch. Maybe this will be fixed with an update, and it is also a really minor detail.
But I do find it helpful in the patches where it is possible, so I would love to see that available everywhere. Otherwise, as much as I would love to offer constructive criticism, I just can’t find anything I dislike or want different.
Conclusion
Scoring Guitars 2 get’s an instant 5 out of 5-star rating from me. Especially considering the value it offers to anyone who doesn’t have access to a fancy Gibson guitar and its sound, or the ability to play it as Neil Goldberg does.
Scoring Guitars 2 sounds amazing, offers a crazy amount of walkability and precision, sounds consistent throughout all patches, and is flexible enough to fit into cinematic scores, as well as Hip-Hop beats, Neo-Classical productions or Pop tunes, and Rock tracks.
If now consider, that you can get all of that for just under $ 100, it’s hard to find other libraries in which those 99,- US- Dollars would be better invested. If you like the sound of edgy guitars at all, get this, you will love it.
I certainly do, and during the few days of reviewing, it already made me start 4 new tracks just, cause I couldn’t hold back. I raise my head to you Heavyocity, thanks for making this wonderful tool for all of us.
