Sequential has announced the Prophet XL, a 76-key version of their recently released flagship Prophet X hardware synthesizer.
The new instrument offers the same powerful combination of 8Dio’s high-fidelity samples and the full-synthesis capabilities that have earned the Prophet X great recognition. However, the ‘XL’ version is intended to make the concept even more attractive for the studio and stage by using a semi-weighted high-quality Fatar keyboard and a new performance mode, a 32-voice polyphony using a single sampled instrument and a single Oscillator allows.
At the center of the Prophet XL and the Prophet X is a sound engine that provides two simultaneous 16-bit, 48-kHz sample-based instruments and two high-resolution digital oscillators with waveshape modulation – all with analog filters. In standard performance mode, the instrument offers bi-timbral, 8-voice stereo or 16-voice mono operation.
Dave Smith says: “We developed the Prophet XL for musicians who wanted more from a good cause, adding an enhanced, semi-weighted action keyboard and activating the 32-voice performance mode to make it even more enjoyable, acoustic and playing electric pianos and other instruments where increased polyphony is critical, and we’re also making the 32-voice mode available on the Prophet X to benefit all our users.”
This means that the capabilities of the XL version will also be made available to the previous Prophet X!
The sample content for the Prophet X series was developed by the sound developers 8Dio, who are known for their “Deep Sampling”.
The Prophet XL and Prophet X 150 GB sample libraries contain a variety of acoustic and electronic instruments as well as an extensive collection of ambient and cinematic effects. Users can manipulate the samples through loop manipulation, sample stretching, and the synthesizer’s many sound sculpting features, including 4 envelope generators, 4 LFOs, a deep modulation matrix, and other tools. The Prophet XL and Prophet X also provide 50 gigabytes of internal memory for importing additional samples. Support for user-created sample content is scheduled for December 2018.
The Prophet XL will be available in November of 2018 with a MAP of $4,399.
