Bruce Sutherland has released JuceOPLVSTi, a free FM synth plugin available in VST/AU 32-bit/64-bit plugin format for both Windows and MAC OS music applications. JuceOPLVSTi emulates the sound of the legendary Yamaha DOSBox OPL2 and OPL3 sound synthesizer chip used in the mid-1980s on old PC sound cards (the Ad Lib card and early Sound Blaster series).
To enter into more technical detail, this emulator consists of two MS-DOS emulators, the DOSBox and ZDoom, each with two oscillators that can be used to quickly switch between emulators. Each oscillator can produce one of eight waveforms such as sine, half sine, absolute sine, quarter sine, alternating sine, camel sine, square, logarithmic sawtooth. Also features an ADSR envelope for controlling the amplitude of each oscillator.
JuceOPLVSTi plugin comes with 1,339 instrument patches in SBI file format. The sample rate of this free plugin synth is 44.1kHz.
T last update of JuceOPLVSTi (v0.11.1) brings several improvements and new features, such as percussion support that work with the DOSBox emulator.
Other fixes and features:
- GUI too large for moderate screen resolution
- Show envelope stage in channel usage display
- Support writing to .DRO format (experimental)
JuceOPLVSTi is the first plugin created by Bruce Sutherland and works very well on Windows. The Mac AU plugin version is verified to work with Logic Pro X, Reaper and Ableton Live 9. JuceOPLVSTi
