EVOLUTION: Modern Drum Machine Plugin by Wave Alchemy

Evolution is the most ambitious Wave Alchemy product, which comes with more than 28,000 electronic and acoustic drum samples, available as a VST plugin and Kontakt Instrument.

Evolution promises a simple workflow. The interface looks damn good, designed for a quick workflow: the drum layering engine, the dynamic browser, the extensive macro system, the built-in effects and the pattern and modulation sequencer – all are very intuitive and offers best results.

The samples sound powerful, crisp and modern through the bench. The secret is that each voice – as the individual instruments are called in evolution – are generated from three engines: drum, transient, and layer.

Using the X + Y pad you can switch between the three engines Drum, Transient, and Layer, which can be used in a live performance or by automation to create interesting, very lively drum patterns.

The presets are arranged according to the genres Abstract & Experimental, Drum & Bass, Electronica, Garage, Hip Hop, House, Pop & Indie, Techno, and Trap.

The sequencer is very clearly designed. On the left, you can see an overview of the individual sample tracks, of which a total of 12 are available.

Under each instrument, there are three buttons. The first (X) can be used to clean up the track, to randomize over the second (cube), and the third (+) button to open the zoom view to fine-grained settings.

In the zoom view, not only can the pattern be fine-tuned, but you have many settings that affect the entire groove.

The effect section contains the parameters for the equalizer/filter, the compressor, and the shaper module.

In the send menu, there are three send effects available: Delay, Reverb 1 and 2. In the submenu, there are numerous choices, including Plates, Rooms, analog emulated and digital effects.
