Apogee announces the release of BOOM, one of the most affordable USB audio interfaces, which offers high-quality sound in a compact format. The novelty is equipped with a loop-back function and converters with support up to 192 kHz/24 bits, a dynamic range of 117 dB, and Kg + noise -107 dB.
In addition to the built-in DSP processor, the unit has one mic preamp with up to 62dB of gain, linked to a combo XLR/TRS input on the front panel. The second input on the right is linear and has only a TRS connector. It is worth noting that the built-in DSP allows you to run proprietary effects, including the ECS Channel Strip with a three-band EQ, compressor, and drive, just like on the Apogee Duet 3 device.
Right from the first moment when I saw this new device, I thought of Wall-E, the cute robot from the animation of the same name from Disney Pixar 🙂
In addition, a single large knob controls both the input gain for both inputs and the volume for the monitor and headphone outputs on the back. The controller can be switched between control modes by pressing the controller itself. Phantom power and other settings can reportedly be controlled using the Apogee Control 2 software via macOS, Windows, or iOS.

Apogee BOOM will be available for purchase soon for $300. It is stated that when registering the interface on the official site of apogeedigital, users will receive free software such as Ableton Live Lite, Apogee Soft Limit, as well as a coupon with a 50% discount on any Apogee plugin/set of plugins and an exclusive 60-day trial version of the plugin from Neural DSP.
The new device is interesting. It costs half as much as Apogee Duet 3, and the input characteristics are almost the same. So, if you are looking for a new compact audio interface, don’t miss this one.
